WaSAKi is a host based write-caching accelerator for Windows Storage Server.  Combined with Umem NVRAM cards, WaSAKi can increase industry standard NAS benchmarks such as SpecSFS and NetBench significantly for various RAID configurations.

Transparent to higher level applications, WaSAKi fits seamlessly into Windows Storage Server as a block device driver.  Dramatic performance gains are realized through application specific caching algorithms.  Even in configurations where host based PCI or external RAID controllers have a dedicated battery backed cache, WaSAKi and Umem NVRAM cards provide a significant boost in both performance (ops/sec) and overall response time.

These gains are seen with enterprise class fibre channel and SCSI drive arrays, but are even greater with SATA drives.  While SATA drives have impressive densities and value on a $/GB basis, they have significant latency when compared to their enterprise fibre channel and SCSI counterparts.  WaSAKi and Umem NVRAM cards not only equalize this performance disparity, but enable SATA drives to provide superior performance to fibre and SCSI drives that are not configured with Wasaki and Umem NVRAM cards.

The graphs below illustrate SpecSFS NFS/ops and Response Time when adding a MM-5425CN/1G NVRAM card + WaSAKi to a storage server with a 64/66 PCI RAID5 controller and 128MB of internal battery backed cache.  The server was a dual x86 platform with a twelve drive SATA array.  For more details on WaSAKi and other associated benchmarks contact Micro Memory.
